Failed to manually scan endpoint on McAfee ePO

Jump to solution

Hello,

I failed to scan endpoints (ENS) through client tasks.

The McAfee ePo connected successfully to the endpoints. Besides, the task was confirmed to be successfully sent to the clients. However, the task finally failed unexpectedly.

A check of the relevant log indicated that the scan auto stopped.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Hello @sanba06c ,

Thank you for the logs,

The task which you started is Run Client Task now: which will automatically get expired in 20 mins.

as per its configuration, you can also change this from option tab within run client task now.

But we dont recommend you to use Run Client Task now, please use modify task on single system and then try if that works for you.

@YashT ,

I scanned only one system. As with the errors, a check of "Server Task Log" on the ePO showed the following:

2/17/20 6:23:23 PMStarted: Sent Run Now task "On-Demand Scan - Quick Scan" to "[redacted]"
2/17/20 6:23:31 PMRun now task On-Demand Scan - Quick Scan received.
2/17/20 6:23:34 PMRun now task On-Demand Scan - Quick Scan started.
2/17/20 6:43:34 PMRun now task On-Demand Scan - Quick Scan failed.

Other the other hand, the endpoint log indicated the following:

"2/18/2020 9:23:36 AM mfetp(6032.18648) <SYSTEM> odsbl.ODS.Activity: Scan started [redacted]$ Quick Scan
2/18/2020 9:23:36 AM mfetp(6032.19352) <SYSTEM> odsbl.ODS.Activity: Scan auto paused [redacted]$ Quick Scan
2/18/2020 9:43:34 AM mfetp(6032.1432) <SYSTEM> odsbl.ODS.Activity: Scan stopped [redacted]$ Quick Scan"

That also depends on other settings that may or may not be enabled, such as scan when idle or other possible settings.  You might want to check with ens team on that, but bottom line is that on demand scans are better not to use run client task now for them, as the datachannel is kept open as long as the task is active, waiting on a status complete from the agent.  Use an assigned client task instead.
