Endpoint Security - custom on-demand scan task - idle scanning + task time limit

We have a custom on-demand scan scheduled to occur every evening at 7pm and stop after 12-hours. So if it's still running by 7am it should stop. We also have the scan configured to only scan when the system is idle, it auto-pauses and resumes.

 

The problem that we're seeing is that this scan runs WAY longer than 12-hours. It seems like when the scan is auto-paused the 12-hour timer stops counting.

How can we make it so this scan stops by 7am no matter if it was paused or not?

1. You will need to change Scan only when the system is idle" in the policy, the behavior would be expected if this was selected, so change it.

2. Please modify the policy and set to scan the machine during off business hours or any time that you prefer.

1. You will need to change Scan only when the system is idle" in the policy, the behavior would be expected if this was selected, so change it.

2. Please modify the policy and set to scan the machine during off business hours or any time that you prefer.

Additionally, what version of the agent are you running?  There were some scheduling issues fixed in 5.5.1 and higher.

There are a couple of kb's on this.

KB59743 - Basically says this isn't going to work with newer MS service packs due to changes in the security model for Windows.

KB82845 - As technologies and security needs have evolved, some of the original McAfee Agent scheduler options have become unnecessary or no longer work as originally intended.

MA 5.x removes support for two scheduler options with its release:

  • Run on dial up
  • Run when Idle

To accommodate MA 4.8 and earlier installations and tasks upgraded from earlier ePO versions, both options remain available for selection in the task scheduling interface. But, although these options are selectable, MA 5.x client installations do not honor these options, even if they are enabled in existing tasks. To maintain expected task execution on MA 5.x clients, you must either create tasks without these scheduler options or modify existing tasks accordingly.
