EPO 4.5 / Windows 2008 R2?

Any tips on installing EPO 4.5 on Windows 2008 R2? The installer complains about an unsupported version.

I guess this support will be in 4.5 Patch 1...hopefully that will drop soon.

I have too hit that obstacle. And the solution pointed out by some other forum member was:

to install ePO 4.5 on Server 2008 R2 place an empty file in the root of your install directory named SkipOS.Ini (..\EPO450L\SkipOS.Ini) you will then get the a error message when you run setup, but it will install.

Yeah, I googled and searched the knowledge base but didn't find any reference to this method.

It was probably a McAfee dev helping us out with a backdoor hack.

Re: EPO 4.5 / Windows 2008 R2?

I got past the initial setup error by using the SkipOS.ini, but after that, it gives me an error saying:

"The 8.3 naming convention is required for installation. Click "OK" to cancel this installation and enable the 8.3 naming convention before proceeding."

Anyone else run into this?

Thanks!

Re: EPO 4.5 / Windows 2008 R2?

8.3 naming conventions are disabled on 2008 R2 for performance reasons.

http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/thread/8822

Example:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystemValue: NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation

Data Type: REG_DWORD

Default: 0
Range: 0 or 1

Set it to 1 to disable 8.3 name creation.

This won't take effect until the next boot.

Re: EPO 4.5 / Windows 2008 R2?

Thanks for brilliant answer. But in my case, I repair Range from 2 to 0

Does anyone have any idea how to do this for the Agent Handler by itself. I tried these instructions but they don't work.
