Deprecated, Undeletable Client Tasks in Catalog

Hi

we removed the Management of Native Encryption Extension from ePO and also removed the client module from the repository and any related client task assignments.

However, we are still seeing some related client tasks in the catalog, which do not have a delete link.

  • Management of Native Encryption - BitLocker 4.1
  • Management of Native Encryption - Bitlocker 5.0
  • Management of Native Encryption - Bitlocker 4.1
  • Management of Native Encryption - FileVault 5.0
  • xxManagement of Native Encryption - Bitlocker 3.0
  • xxManagement of Native Encryption - Bitlocker 2.1

I seem to have Owner rights to the tasks. At least, my username is listed under the Owners hyperlink ("Administrators") but it does not seem to be enough though.

Re: Deprecated, Undeletable Client Tasks in Catalog

Without the extension, you can't manage them.  What I would suggest is first, check back in the extension.  You don't need to check back in the product in master repository.  Then, once that is checked back in, go to server settings, policy and task retention and disable that temporarily.  Make sure you have a backup of the database, then remove the extension again.  That should remove those tasks.  You can then re-enable policy and task retention.

Re: Deprecated, Undeletable Client Tasks in Catalog

Thank you very much for the very quick feedback!

I checked Software Manager in order to check-in MNE extension. What's weird is that McAfee Management of Native Encryption 5.0 is listed twice under Checked In Software / Licensed. The content of the two sections looks very similar.

Capture.PNG

Also the extension seems to be checked-in. This actually matches my memory, which I had started to doubt. We updated that extension to the latest version a few weeks ago. But when I could not find it under extensions, I thought that I might have removed instead. So, the extension seems installed but it is not listed under Extensions, and, we have these undeletable tasks.

Thank you!

Re: Deprecated, Undeletable Client Tasks in Catalog

Let me ask you this - if you go to product deployment instead of client task catalog, do they show up there?

Re: Deprecated, Undeletable Client Tasks in Catalog

No, nothing there relating to MNE.

I found however that under MNE is listed as Data Protection under Extensions, which is why I did not see it at first.

Meanwhile, I disabled Policy and Task retention, and then I removed the extension. The tasks are still there however.

Re: Deprecated, Undeletable Client Tasks in Catalog

Ok, send me the output of this script:

select name, version from orionextensions

Be sure to validate table name, as it may end in MT, depending on epo version.

Re: Deprecated, Undeletable Client Tasks in Catalog

Can I execute SQL through the ePO console? I do not have direct access to the DB.

Re: Deprecated, Undeletable Client Tasks in Catalog

no, but you can run this and get an output from epo.  Replace servername and port with your servername and port if it is different.

Re: Deprecated, Undeletable Client Tasks in Catalog

Run these, but it has to be done via sql.

--find tasks assigned by tags:

select
EPOTaskObjects.Name as 'Client Task Name with Tag Assignment',
EPOTag.Name as 'Tag Name',
EPOTaskAssignmentsTags.Include as 'Inclusion Tag'
from EPOTaskObjects, EPOTaskAssignmentsTags, EPOTag, EPOTaskAssignments
where
EPOTaskAssignments.TaskObjectId = EPOTaskObjects.TaskObjectId
and EPOTaskAssignmentsTags.TagId = EPOTag.TagID
and EPOTaskAssignmentsTags.TaskAssignmentId = EPOTaskAssignments.TaskAssignmentId

--find orphaned assignment:

select * from EPOTaskAssignmentsMT where NodeType in (1, 2) and NodeId not in (select autoid from EPOLeafNodeMT)
select * from EPOTaskAssignmentsMT where NodeType in (3, 4, 5) and NodeId not in (select autoid from EPOBranchNodeMT)
