Is there a way to clone a branch in the system tree so I get all of the policies and tasks but not the machines?
We want to make a change to a policy and slow roll it out to the machines. We are thinking the way to do this is to make a new branch on the same level and the previous one that has all of the profiles and tasks but has our 1 policy change. Then slowly move machines from 1 branch to the other at the pace the manager desires. Once everyone is moved to the new branch, we can dispose of the old one... OR move everyone to the newly cloned branch and make the change on the original one then delete the newest one after it is emptied.
I am curious if we can duplicate the branch with out having to manually do it. There are a number of broken inherentance items in there which will slow making it manually again.
There isn't an option to duplicate a branch in the system tree. You can manually create a new branch with desired structure and set the policies/tasks there as desired by breaking inheritance at the root of that branch or wherever you want to break it. Broken inheritances are easy to reset, but you just need to be sure you want to reset policies on a system. You would have to do that for tasks and policies separately. Whichever way you choose to move systems back and forth is entirely up to you as to what would be the least trouble and risk in doing so.
