I have disabled the default AutoUpdate task and have created two managed update tasks. One is set to run at Startup and the other at 6am.
The problem I have is that VSE is still updating itself once the DAT in the master repository has been updated. This happens between 5pm - 6pm BST and causes a performance hit on some machines.
This is happening on variety of platforms
Windows Server 2003 R2 x64, Agent 126.96.36.1990, VSE 8.7 Patch 3
Windows Server 2008 R2 x64, Agent 188.8.131.529, VSE 8.7 Patch 3
Windows 7 x86, Agent 184.108.40.2069, VSE 8.8
I'm running EP0 4.5 build 753.
My questions are, why would is this happening and how can I stop the DAT updates from updating when not scheduled.

By default when VSE is installed, a default update task is enabled which runs at 5pm (randomised by an hour) local time.
Because you're managing via EPO, you have also created update tasks there, but the default one will remain active.
There is a setting (think it's under "VSE General" - someone will have to correct me) for "Disable Default Update Task".
Thanks for the reply
For 8.7 it's under the User Interface Policies and for 8.8 it's under the General Options Policies.
I already have this ticked and if I check the log for the default update task on the clients it hasn't run since last year.
Any other ideas?
Only other thing I can think of is that Global Updating is enabled and running:when the new dat is downloaded from McAfee.
Can't really provide any more info on this (not at work, not near EPO etc etc), but I'd be checking that as a possible culprit.
