Can't install McAfee agent on NUC

Jump to solution

I'm attempting to install the McAfee Agent on a NUC running Windows 10 via the ePO and also manually, both of which have failed. The system is on an internal network with no access to the Internet.

When I try to install via the "Deploy Agent" task on the ePO, the server task log says it's successful. However, it also says "Failed to access remote registry, system error: The network path was not found.". This has been said on multiple systems that I've been able to install McAfee on successfully, though. It says it's installed successfully, but nothing happens on this particular system.

I also try to install it manually via the MEAgent windows installation file that we have on one of our network shares and it gives me two errors. The first error is error 1714 that says "The older version of McAfee Agent cannot be removed. Contact your technical support team.". There is no McAfee agent on the computer, though.

The second error comes before the previous error and says "The file is not a valid installation package for the product McAfee Agent. Try to find the installation package 'MFEagent.msi' in a folder from which you can install McAfee Agent.".

Lastly, here is some of the log:

Given all these errors and information, can someone help install McAfee on this NUC?

Thank you!

I'm not sure how, but I finally got it installed. It was very out of date with Windows updates and once I got it up to date McAfee was able to install.

It seems that you are remnants older version of MA present on the machine.

"The older version of McAfee Agent cannot be removed. Contact your technical support team.

It seems that there is uncleaned  older agent is present on the machine.

I suggest to run EPR tool on the machine, removed partially present MA from the machine, reboot then try to install it.

Can you tell me about the EPR tool? I'm a novice at McAfee trying to learn more. Is this something that I have access to via the ePO or something I have to download? If it's something I have to download, it'll be more difficult since I'm on an intranet not connected to the Internet. How do I run the EPR tool?

Hi,

The EPR tool is the Endpoint Product Removal Tool and can be downloaded by logging into the McAfee Business Products Downloads page which you will need to sign into using your McAfee Grant Number and associated email address.

The URL to the McAfee Business Downloads site is: https://www.mcafee.com/content/enterprise/en-gb/downloads/my-products/listing.html

When logged on, the EPR tool can be found under Utilities and Connectors as seen below:

EPR tool in Downloads Portal.PNGEndpoint Product Removal Tool

Simply download the tool and check it into your Master Repository then create a task and assignment for it. I usually create a tag too so as to tag the devices where you want to run the tool on.

What I do is create a separate task for each product I wish to target, so if removing VSE for example, use the parameters: --VSE --accepteula --noreboot.

Hope this helps.

Since there is no agent to get a task, you would need to download the epr tool and copy it manually to that system to run it.  However, I am wondering if NUC is a supported platform.  I suppose it possibly would be, but the question is, does it run a scaled down version of Windows 10?  We might need to look into the supportability of it.
