Building a vm Lab for the ePO

First I would like to state that I am not a server admin. I am looking for a build guide for setting up a vm test enviroment utilizing eval versin of Win server 2016, eval version of SQL, and w10 endpoint.

What are the minimal requirements for setting a test ePO environment? DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, etc...

Re: Building a vm Lab for the ePO

Hi mtravis, ‘Virtual Machine’ vs ‘real piece of tin’, the two operations are no different.

As with any major product ePO as well as SQL so long as you can login as administrator, the install guides for each product will be all you need.

Below relates to ePO 5.9, but 5.3 or 5.10 is much the same, have a look at the below guide for steps and details:

ePolicy Orchestrator 5.9 Installation Guide - Rev. B
Product Documentation ID:   PD26915

Additionally if you wish to, this next guide below offers hardware specifications to have (on in a VM setup – allocate) to allow ePO and SQL to operate as needed for any estate, test or production.

I’d advise the two installs are installed on separate hosts, to better replicate a production estate.

ePolicy Orchestrator 5.1.0 Best Practices Guide - Rev B
Product Documentation ID:   PD2551

An interesting find was the below link, it’s a video of an ePO/SQL install, the user has sped time up be assured and ePO/SQL install will not be this fast, but it’s a good visual to look at to help make yourself familiar with the various screens to expect etc.
