Dear All,
we are running ePO 5.10 upd 9 on prem. We are also about to upgrade our SQL instance from version 2012 to 2019. Just wanted to ask whether there is any documentation around how to proceed with this. ePO and SQL server are running on seperate machines, which are both VMs. So, in my mind, I would shut down both of them, create a clone of each, then bring up the SQL, upgrade SQL, then boot the ePO again.
Thanks in advance for any input!

Hello @FA1
Thanks for your response.
Have the backups available for ePO Server and ePO Database with the help of the KB66616.
Backup is needed because if something goes wrong so in that case you can restore it to the working state.

Hello @FA1
Thanks for your post.
Please make sure you have the backups available before attempting the upgrade.
For backup please refer the below KB article:
https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB66616
Once you have the correct backup you can try upgrading.
Also there are some guides available on Microsoft Site which you can refer.
We (McAfee) don’t have such documents available.
The only thing you need make sure that you are having a good backup available.

Hello,
I'm returning to this topic because I have a question. Is it necessary to detach the database?
As I understand it, the steps are:
Create a backup of ePO.
Shutdown ePO (either services or server machine).
Update SQL as per MS documentation.
Start up ePO again.
Anything else?
Thanks in advance and regards,
As long as you have full backups in the event anything goes wrong, you should not need to detach the database. Just make sure epo server and any agent handler services are off.
