Have you tried KB85528 yet? Also, KB79523 in the workaround section at the bottom of the kb often works.

I have followed the article KB79523, ran the setup to see the error message " Failed to load the list of installed products for your epo installation, please check the admin name and password".
I am really worried as this issue is making us sleepless nights.....

From your case notes, you aren't able to get to https://eposervername:8443/remote/ext.list.do. Have you gotten that resolved yet?

"Bypassed the proxy and Bypasslist returns: (none)" , that means the proxy is not bypassing "local". Have you validated that local addresses are indeed bypassed in both IE and epo proxy settings?
