McAfee DXL Client is automatically installed with McAfee Agent version 5.6.0 or later.
It may be missed when deploying through GPO as mentioned in the link below.

We may have to look at the deployment logs that are available in the below location.
1. When Deployed from ePO.
C:\Windows\Temp\McAfeeLogs
2. When the installer is run locally.
%temp%\McAfeeLogs

There should be a dxl install log in the location Pravas gave you.

Hi Guys,
That location does not exist on the systems I am having trouble with. The agent is 5.7.4 so did the log location change with that version. things seem to fine with VSE 8.8 , but of course I can't upgrade with out getting the data exchange piece installed. The same framepkg.exe file works fine on a new build.
Is there a way to specify where the log file goes?
If the install is done locally, then the log would be in %temp%\mcafeelogs folder. If it is installed from epo, then it should be in windows\temp\mcafeelogs. If no log was generated, then perhaps it wasn't able to execute. The msi install log for the agent should show any errors.
You can copy the dlx.zip file from \Program Files (x86)\McAfee\DB\Software\Current\EPOAGENT3000\Install\0409, extract it and run the exe to see what errors you might get installing dxl.
