Workaround for KB87371: Unable to save a process or file path in the On-Access Scan policy

Hi,

just came across that problem and after searching what the problem may is, I found that KB entry. (We had done a fresh 5.3.2 install and migrate/transfer agents from the old ePO – so I first though maybe it was my fault)

As I had to add some changes quickly and cannot wait for the hotfix, I did the following workaround:

  • Export Policies (VSE e.g.).
  • Open that saved xml file and look for the right section –e .g. (or just look for some known process entry)

<Section name="Server_Trusted-Application">

<Setting name="dwApplicationCount" value="2"/>

<Setting name="szApplicationItem_0" value="some.exe"/>

<Setting name="szApplicationItem_1" value="other.exe"/>

</Section>

Add a new

<Setting name="szApplicationItem_X" value="Y"/>

Replace X with the next number, depending on how much entries do you have. Replace Y with process name.

Don’t forget to increase value of dwApplicationCount to number of entries (see example above. Entries are starting from 0, 1, … but total number is 2)

  • Save file
  • Import polices (only select that policy you have modified)

Re: Workaround for KB87371: Unable to save a process or file path in the On-Access Scan policy

Hi there,

I imagine I need this hotfix as I'm having the same issue but can't seem to find where to download this hotfix.  Can someone please help?

As you can see from the screenshot, the path format is correct but for some reason, I can't tick "Also exclude subfolders" and when I click OK, it doesn't do anything.

Your help is much appreciated.

Are you running epo 5.3.2?  If so, please be aware that is no longer supported.  That being said, the hotfix is available on the download site.  You have to uncheck show only latest versions and choose epo 5.3 - then filter it for hotfixes and in that list you will find it.  If you are on 5.3 still, please consider upgrading as soon as possible.

Re: Workaround for KB87371: Unable to save a process or file path in the On-Access Scan policy

Thank you very much for your prompt response.  I have now found the hotfix.  Just want to double check though, the description for this hotfix is "ePolicy Orchestrator 5.3.2 Hotfix 1144868. This hotfix addresses the issue where the Save button is disabled when adding a process to the On-Access policy for McAfee Endpoint Security (ENS), McAfee VirusScan Enterprise (VSE), or McAfee Management for Optimized Virtual environments (MOVE)."  My issue is a little bit different in that the OK button is NOT greyed out but clicking it doesn't do anything.  What is greyed out for me is the tick box to select the subfolders.

So, do you think this hotfix will fix my issue?  Also, as this is the first time I'm working on the EPO, could you please tell me if installing this hotfix is just a matter of double-clicking the exe file on the server?

Regarding upgrading the EPO, I will have to bring this to the attention of my manager so you may likely ask for further advise on this matter when the time comes.

Your help is much appreciated.

It can't hurt to try the hotfix.  There are often residual fixes that happen when one issue is fixed, like a related issue.  Other than that, you will need to upgrade.  You can also try a different browser.

Re: Workaround for KB87371: Unable to save a process or file path in the On-Access Scan policy

Thank you.  I have tried both IE and Chrome browsers but got the same issue.  Could you please confirm if I only need to double click ePO532HF1144868.exe in the EPO server to install this?  Is there anything else I need to be aware of before applying this hotfix?

Your help is much appreciated.

Re: Workaround for KB87371: Unable to save a process or file path in the On-Access Scan policy

Any hotfix, patch or otherwise install - always have full backups per kb66616.  When you do install the hotfix, I would suggest stopping services first, then when you run setup, right-click on it and run as administrator rather than double-click.
