Windows update fails

I am having issues installing windows security patches which are installed from an .exe file.  During installation the patches fail every time with one of the three error messages: error code 87, error code 1186, or the trusted installer causes the computer to completely freeze up and requires a hard reboot.

Re: Windows update fails

How about an exception in the On-Access-Scan Policie for your exe files?

Best regards

Re: Windows update fails

Look at KB52624.  Excluding exe's is not a recommended approach.  You first need to look at the on access scan and access protection logs to see which one is interfering.  I would recommend making sure the location where your install files are dropped on the system is excluded also.  If you need assistance with determining what the best exclusions/settings would be, you can open a ticket with the dynamic endpoint team to assist.  They can help determine if it is access protection, on access scanning, or if some processes need to be in low risk policy.

Re: Windows update fails

I don’t have McAfee VirusScan installed on any of the machines. On the client computer I have a McAfee agent and solidcore enabled. On the server I have policies for McAfee Agent and for solidcore I have Application control, Integrity Control and  General rules.

Re: Windows update fails

You might want to post this question then under solidcore team to see if they can assist with settings and log analysis.
