I am on 5.3.1 with installed Hotfix 1117371.
I also don't like the suggested solution provided by McAfee/Intel Support, that's why I haven't performed it so far If I remove the extension and would not be able to reinstalling it, that would be worst case.
I will update this thread as soon as I have installed hotfix 1124228 and if it resolves the issue.
Maybe your SR brings some more light into the darkness.
McAfee has advised me that they are aware of the issue but do not know whats causing it or a fix yet and have my SR in a pending state. They did mention that upgrading to 5.3.1 might resolve the issue, but it Wyle is still having the issue. The did admit to me it doesn't happen to everyone and they haven't been able to find a rhyme or reason yet.
Installing HF1124228 doesn't resolve the issue for me
Is your error message also related to Access Protection policies (APPolicyMigrateCommand :: Failed to create AP config)?

I received some certs they had me upload into my trusted cert store, but it made no difference. I also had another person I know having the same issue try them and it did not help them either.
unfortunately not but SR is still in progress.
I was advised to remove all custom Access Protection policies and then to install the Extension but this was also unsuccessful.
Now I have got the following instructions but I was not able to test this so far:
"At this point I suggest to follow the DB maintenance (https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB67184) and then checkin the extension. This will clear the DB issues that are preventing the queries to be executed (the queries that run during extension cehckin)"

I don't have to proceed with the DB maintenance because DB maintenance is already in place and is scheduled to run once each week (I was not aware of that). Now I have asked for further instructions and I am curious what is coming next.
