Tags lost during ePO transfer (5.3.3 to 5.10)

Jump to solution

Hi,

By transfering systems from epo 5.3.3 to 5.10, some tags (manually applied) were lost.

We use the "Transfer System" option on old epo and tags are of course available on both epo.

I did not find specific information about that fact, is this a normal behavior ?

Thanks.

Here is how tagging works, especially when transferring systems.  If a tag is applied by criteria, they will be applied when transferring to other epo based on the criteria of the tag, whether it matches the system or not.  This applies to local epo server or destination server.  If any tag is applied manually, they will need to also be applied manually on the destination server.  The tag status of applied or not applied to a system is not transferred along with the system when it transfers.  So each epo server applies its own tags based on manual assignment on that epo server or by criteria.  What you experienced is expected behavior.

Another thing to not is that if there are tasks or policies applied by tags, when you import the tags into another epo server along with tasks and policies, you may need to reset the tasks and policies to ensure the correct tags are assigned.  This is because tags are referenced by the ID number of the tag in the database tables.  When you import tags into another epo, the ID numbers may not be the same.  So always verify correct tags are applied in your tasks and policies.

Hello @mr54

Thanks for your post.

I would like to inform you that after transferring the system all the tags will be reset , Since tag information is from the database.

You need to reapply all the tags manually.
