Remove HIPS extension

Jump to solution

Hello

I managed to bring all Systems to ENS FW instead of HIPS.
Is it recommended to remove HIPS Products and Extensions from ePO ?
Any expirience or issues to expect?

Thanks and happy new year
Nic

Hello @Tech-Nic

Thanks for your post.

If you started using ENS Firewall and don’t wanted to use HIPS anymore in that case please export the HIPS Policies from Policy Catalog.

Once the policies will get exported please use the below KB article for removing the extension.

https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB81737

You can also go to the Extension and try to remove the HIPS extension one by one from EXTENSIONS page.

Before you do so please make sure that you have good backup available of ePO server and ePO database with the help of below KB

https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB66616

Having ePO server and ePO Database backup is mandatory.

If you want to leave it as it is in your ePO you can do so.

If any machine is having HIPS installed in that case removing extension will remove all the policies as well.

If you want to save the policies as a backup, also export the hips catalog.  If you want to remove hips and all the policies, catalog, etc, then before removing extension, be sure under server settings, policy and task retention is disabled, otherwise your policies and tasks will remain.  Be sure to re-enable it for any future extension removals to prevent policy loss inadvertently.  And as @vivs stated, make sure you have full backups of epo and database per kb66616.

One thing to note, if you have any clients with the firewall installed, you will no longer be able to manage the firewall settings, so make sure to uninstall any clients first.
