Question on self-signing certificate

I need some direction on how to create a self-signing certificate without using a public CA. I don't know much about SSL and certificate, I downloaded OPENSSL and tries to follow a few KBs article but just got more confused. We have a ePO 5.10 server EPOSERVER1 and I already have a DNS alias EPOUK.mycompany.internal pointing to it, currently it's getting 'connection is not private' error. Can someone give me the exact SSL command line(s) to create the certificate file and PEM file in order to import into Server Setting > Server certificate. Many Thanks.

Re: Question on self-signing certificate

KB72477 describes the steps to create your own certificate.  You don't have to use a public CA, you can set up your own CA for your domain in Windows.

Re: Question on self-signing certificate

Thanks for your reply, we're using Microsoft active directory but I have no access to the domain Certification Authority. is it possible to setup without the domain CA ?

I understand I might need to manually import a public key to ever desktop that need to connect to https://epouk.mycompany.internal:443

Re: Question on self-signing certificate

You have to have some kind of CA to create a certificate, as there must be a trusted root certificate authority for the cert.  You can contact your AD admin to see if they have a CA set up, then if so, you would follow the KB to create the signing request to have a cert generated by them.
