Re: Question about RSD and ignored subnets

Jump to solution

Sensors are installed onto physical subnets. You can ignore 'Active' scanning of subnets (Server Settings), which in your case will relate to whether they're Class A, B or C.

Senors will gather\pick up any IP information that the subnet has; Either through active (physically interrogating the device) or passive scanning (using a sniffer type technology to grab packets); The Passive scanning option cannot be configured to stop, the Active option has the capability of excluding subnets for obvious reasons.

As has been mentioned we would not recommend that you ignore any subnet. There is the option to include devices to the exceptions list. There are circumstances where you would not be able to install an agent for example. In this circumstance you would 'manage' the devices by placing them in the 'Exceptions' list, you would be basically ignoring these devices. Exceptions are generally systems that don’t need a McAfee Agent and from which you no longer want to receive detection information. The most common examples of these devices would be voice over IP telephones and switches. RSD also allows you to identify unmanageable non-corporate devices, such as personal cell phones; which would then be added to this list.
