Hello,
We have two different equipment categorized under different subgroups in ePO, as below:
Equipment A:
IP: 10.56.36.88
Hostname: C600M05-S
Equipment B:
IP: 164.130.160.73
Hostname: BLU27
When we put C600M05-S under another subgroup it changes hostname to BLU27 even though they have a different I.P. and hostname.
Can you please explain what could be the issue here and how we can solve it?
Thank you.
Regards,
Kyle
Solved! Go to Solution.
So we fixed the issue by changing the network adapter on one of the conflicting systems.
Thank you for your help!
Are either of them connecting via vpn and what is the mac address each is reporting? See KB52949

if you remove them from the ePO (delete only the systems not the agent) - they still come back with the same problem ?
are you using the latest agent ?
maybe they have the same GUID ?
This is most likely the MAC is same for both...
The logic what it follows is, every time the ASCI happens, it will check the AGENTGUID with system tree..
When it is not finding with AgentGUID, ONLY by then it will check with MAC, in your case.
Every time ASCI is happening from these machines, those are overlapping by another with same MAC
If you want to understand the algorithm & logic using for system entry verify with matching criteria,
The best article is: KB93591
https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB93591
If then you didn't understood on the logic and the source of the issue, then follow KB93285 and collect all the data as mentioned in my article and open a SR with support, we will check and explain you the details of this problem thoroughly.

So I have an update on this issue.
I can confirm that your supposition that both MAC addresses are the same is correct. The MAC is 88-88-88-88-87-88 for both equipment. I don't know how this is possible because as far as I know MAC addresses are unique to the specific hardware.
How should we proceed given this uncommon circumstance?
Thank you.
KB52949 describes how to deal with this. In epo server settings, there is an option to add the vendor mac ID into the database via the console instead of running a script manually in sql. The vendor mac id is the first 6 octets of the mac address.
