The reboot prompt may be coming by the McAfee Agent general policy:

Log on to the ePO console.

Click Menu, Policy, Policy Catalog.

Select McAfee Agent from the Product drop-down list.

Select General from the Category drop-down list.

Click Edit Settings under the Actions column for the defined policy.

Click the General tab and deselect Prompt user when reboot is required to suppress reboot messages.

Hi.. Cybercafe, thanks for your reply, I realized that last night, and i have changed that policy. Now I just wait for a couple day and see what happen.

But I still wonder, is that any effect for client server system if the McAfee need the system restart, but we dont restart it for long day?

For an example on Server, mcafee want the server restart, but cause this server is critical that cannot be restart, so we dont restart it.

Second quetsion is, what kind of event that required system restart? is DAT update/engine update or something else?

Gustri

Hi

The reboot is most likely due to the Network Driver Hook which is installed with VSE. The 'Prevent mass mailing worms from Sending Mail' Access Protect Policy needs to be able to block port 25 at the network level, and this driver needs to start at boot time, hence the reboot prompt.

I've seen the reboot prompt being displayed after deploying McAfee SiteAdvisor 3.5 and applying HF1076106, even though the Prompt user when reboot is required to suppress reboot messages. option in the McAfee Agent policy was disabled prior the deployment. The HF is getting installed as part of the Product Update Task.

Hi

That is deep knowledge for me. Thank you for your kindness to explain.

Hi

That what I think so, I just test to deploy SAE 3.5 on a group. Next day, the system on that group always ask to reboot, cuase new McAfee product were installed, and happen again even after the system was restarted. So any solution about this?

If you are sure that all McAfee software is installed, check the Windows folder. There could be a left over file called McAfee_reboot.* This should get cleared out after a reboot but I have seen this left behind on some machines and they keep displaying the the McAfee reboot message

I have a ticket currently opened with the platinum support. Let's see what they have to say about this. So far we have agreed that there are cases like product updates in our case HF installations that require reboot and this cannot be controlled from the ePO, but the question is why it keeps asking for reboot even after the HF is applied and a reboot has been performed once. I'll follow up on here.

I am having this problem right now after using MA 5.6.3 to install via ePO:  patch 13 for VSE 8.8, and the TIE module 1.0.3 for VSE.  I believe it is related to the RebootPending registry value that is set to 1 in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\CMNUPD__3000 registry key.  Unfortunately, McAfee has this locked down so tight that even with administrator privileges and a McAfee Agent policy enforced with self-protection disabled, I cannot change it.  I suspect that something more is going on here, and that I do not truly have full administrator permissions.  I've already rebooted twice.  I hope this might help someone else.
