On Demand Scan Failing - Multiple Clients

Jump to solution

I've attempted several policy based, on demand scans via server task thru ePO and they have failed. Report thru ePO says that is was cancelled. The last one I attempted and failed was my own machine, and when I went to scan locally (to isolate the issue) it asked to "resume scan" so I did so and it is scanning as we speak.

Some logs I just don't have time to go and check, but I usually can scan them locally (remoting into PC and launching ENS.

I've checked the logs on mine for the scan and it also stated that it was paused/canceled.

Advise for steps to remediate?

What are the settings on the task and/or policy?  There are several things that can cause it - time limit set on the task, scan only when idle, user cancelled, user is allowed to defer, system shut down would also cancel the task.  You would need to look at masvc logs for any indication of what is happening with the scheduling.  If you don't see anything, please open a ticket with McAfee agent team.

I tested again on my PC and it failed. I have the timestamps of the start of the scan and the end (fail) but when reading the "masvc_PCNAME.log" from ProgramData>McAfee>Agent>logs, I am not seeing anything that tells me why. Do you know what specifically I am looking for?

The masvc log will show a task invoking, ending, next run time, last run time.  It will show also if the task failed or succeeded.  If it is failing, I would suggest first to ensure the agent is invoking it properly.  If the task says it is starting and then fails, that might point to a point product issue, whether it is virusscan or ens.  At that point, I would recommend opening a ticket with McAfee so we can look at logs.  You don't want to post them here on a public forum.
