Need to utilize multiple source sites for DAT/content updates based on third party vetting.

Jump to solution
We are looking at the feasibility of utilizing a centralized ePO server to manage multiple systems grouped by the supplying vendors. Each vendor tests the new DAT files on their lab systems and then supplies the vetted DAT to the customers as a service. We would like to, if possible, create multiple groups with each one utilizing a different source for these third party vendors sites to get and distribute the DAT files to the appropriate machines related to that vendor.

Unfortunately, you only have the choice of the 3 branches.  To really do what you want, you would need separate epo servers, which, for security purposes, would be the best option.  On premise epo is not multi-tenant, so vendor 1 may be able to view info from vendor 2 if permission sets are not very explicit.  Even at that, some policies may be able to be viewed by other vendor.  You can't even not replicate to some distributed repositories to hold back updates because clients won't use them if they are not up to date sites.

I don't think you need different sources.  When you pull content from the pull task, pull the new dats/amcore into evaluation branch and move previous to current so they can test from that branch.  Clients would then update from current (they would be a day behind, which is fine) except for the test systems that would update from evaluation.

The different sources are due to the vendors each only qualifying certain DAT files for their particular systems.  We currently utilize three different vendors and only want the systems in specific groups to get the DAT from the appropriate vendor.  (ex. Vendor A approves DAT 1 and Vendor B approves DAT 2, group A would need to pull the DAT from the Vendor A source and group B would need to pull the DAT from Vendor B source)

Thanks for the information.  Security wise it's not an issue as the vendors would not have access to the ePO server they would simply supply the vetted DAT files.

Without putting different versions of dats in the different branches, that would be a little difficult to work out.
