Moving/Migrating ePO 4.5 from W2K3 to W2K8 R2 box

Hi all,

Thinking of doing an ePO migration on our virtual testing environment.

Current setup:

Windows Server 2003 R2 x86

SQL2005 (same box)

only ePO for domain

Planning to create a VM and install Windows Server 2008 R2

Install SQL2005 or 2008 (same box)

Install ePO 4.5 patch1

Use this box as the only ePO for domain

What is the best way of replacing/migrating one 2003 box with a 2008 R2 box???

I've read KB66616 - and was wondering whether this is the way to go.

Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

In similar migration, I found pitfalls in Rogue System Sensors. It was a known issue in 4.0, not covered in that documentation.

Be prepared to delete all and set them up again if the IP address or name of the EPO box changes.

Similarly remote repositories. Again, deleting from EPO and recreating sorted it.

Maybe it's no longer a problem in 4.5, but  . . .

Hope that helps.

Be sure to keep the servername (and ip if possible).

Also the ePO Server must be installed with the same patch level as the source system.

Then migration with your link is no problem.

PS: If you plan to use SQL2008R2 be sure to upgrade to ePO 4.6 before.

you may also want to review KB71078 & PD23051.
