Migrate ePO from one server to the other

Jump to solution

Hello Team,

I have a project to get rid of Physical server. What is the best approach to do this?

This is what I am thinking to do.

I have a cluster DB

New ePO server VM

Old ePO server Physical

Planning to install fresh ePo on a new server using the same SQL instance which will create a new ePO DB with the new server. Then transfer policy, tasks e.t.c manually and finally transfer clients.

You can't use another epo server as an agent handler to another epo server.  You might be better off to just use the dr procedure to reinstall the existing epo on a new server.  It would also be wise to keep either IP or hostname the same (which would require downing the existing server), so that clients can resolve one or the other.

You will want to look at the following kb first:

kb88822 and if using encryption, also follow this - https://docs.mcafee.com/bundle/drive-encryption-v7-2-0-client-transfer-product/resource/PD26656.pdf

It looks like more work there.

What about install ePO on the new server to serve as Agent Handler and send Sitelist to all clients. Now, all clients know the IP address and host name of the the new ePO server.  Then shutdown old ePO server and reinstall full installation on the new ePO server using DR procedure. Is that something will work?
