McAfee epo upgradation from 5.9.1 to 5.10.0 fails with SQL Server Connectivity Error

Jump to solution
When i tried upgrading my client epo from 5.9.1 to 5.10.0, after the migrating products and it's settings it started to run the core components and all of a sudden it has started to roll back and throw installation is failed. While i checked the log files I found the EPO5100-Error.ini. In this folder the following error was shown: [ErrorLog] ErrorString=FAILURE: Failed to connect to the SQL server. ActionName=MerMod_StartCurrentServices CustomAction: MerMod_StartCurrentServices I also referred to the article https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB90874&locale=en_US. Do we have to change the SCHANNEL settings for this issue or is there any other work around? My client is running other applications in the server so i don't want to disturb those applications.

Since sql is on the same server, you need to make sure also that tls 1.0 is enabled - see KB90874.  The easiest way to get around that is to run iiscrypto, choose best practices, then reboot.

First of all, is sql on the same server that epo is on?  If not, that KB does not apply.  However, 5.10 has more stringent tls requirements that 5.9 has.  If your sql server is hosting other databases, you might want to see if you can move the epo database to a dedicated sql server.

For the TLS requirements, the best way to ensure compatibility is to download IISCrypto from Nartac and run it, choose best practices, then reboot - on both epo and sql servers.  That enables the required ciphers and tls components that epo needs.

Otherwise see the following KB's:  KB92364, 91270, 91304, 91296, 91115, and 91298.

Yes, The sql server and epo is installed in the same server. The Sql server is a dedicated sever for McAfee ePO. Also, the sql version which we have supports TLS 1.2

Thank you for the guidelines provided. After enabling TLS1.0 as you said, i was able to upgrade McAfee epo from 5.9.1 to 5.10.0 successfully.
