I've seen something similar on some Windows Server 2012 RTM hosts too, but on no other boxes.
Haven't had the time to investigate further, but reverting to MA 5.5.0 fixed it for me.

So far this issue has been resolved by disabling peer to peer updating. PhilR, if you still see issues after testing disabling that, I would suggest opening a ticket with McAfee.
