Install of McAfee agent status is stuck - Pending

Jump to solution
Hello, I have a windows 10 PC that is running agent 5.5.1.342 and MNE 4.1.4.2  the pc was being updated to agent 5.6.5.195, MNE 5.1.0 and ENS 10.7.  We are using ePO 5.10

The problem is I first started the updating the agent, then I discovered that MNE 4.1.4.2 is not compatible with agent 5.6.5.195. Now the agent install status says "Pending" and I can not delete MNE 4.1.4.2, I can not update MNE to 5.1.0   I have tried using the McAfee product removal tool in ePO and the task says completed but even after several wake up agents, MNE is not removed (device is not encryption)

It seems like the update from agent 5.5.1 to 5.6.5 is stuck and preventing any other installs and uninstalls.  Is there a way to delete the pending install from ePO. Because the system is at another location I prefer a solution that I can do through ePO. Thanks

Just an update.  It was just a few windows systems so I used the McAfee Product Removal tool running from the desktop on each system and removed all McAfee products and ten reinstalled. It ended up just being easier to start all over. For the systems that were remote, I had the user run the tool. Then send the the agent install url.

Thanks

It sounds like you are using a run client task now or are you using product deployment?  I would suggest to never add an agent install to other product installs in the same task.  The reason being is that an agent install stops the services, hence killing the task.  The task will then not run again if it was a run client task now.

First of all, what version of agent is on one of those systems currently - did it get upgraded?  If not, try testing using a scheduled client task to deploy just the agent and see if it upgrades.  If so, set up a separate task for upgrading mne.  One problem I see, however, is that the agent runs a compatibility check now with deployments, so if the version of mne isn't supported with that version of agent, it won't install.  So you will need to possibly set up a client task to remove mne.  Without seeing logs to know the full status of everything, including the removal tool logs, it is hard to guess at what state things are in.
