How to initialize a McAfee Encrypted USB Disk

Hi All,

We used to have an ePO server and a lot of Encrypted USB drives.

The ePO server is not in use anymore.

On a lot of computers there is still the "McAfee Encrypted USB Client" installed.

When plugging in the Encrypted USB disk it starts the initialization (managed) but this should not happen as it has to be initialized Standalone.

The problem is, these drives are now sort of locked. We receive an error "Invalid Device State" and we cannot initialize them again.

The led colors are: orange and red

They cannot be initialized anymore on any other computer. Not even on a computer where the McAfee Encrypted USB Client is not installed.

Any chance to make it possible for us to use the drives again?

Thank you

Re: How to initialize a McAfee Encrypted USB Disk

No, because that would remove the software on the drive, right?

And btw, I could only format the "Application" partition.

The drive itself, the Private disk, cannot be formatted.

Are you talking about Cool Disk?

Am I right?

If it is, then you can format it without any issue but you have to install the encryption again because the software will remove after format.

Re: How to initialize a McAfee Encrypted USB Disk

I just took a picture of it.

It's this one.

I cannot format the disk.

Usually, if everything is fine. You see a partition called "LOCKED" and when you swipe with your finger it changes to "PRIVATE" and you can use it.

However, now I don't see "LOCKED" partition at all. And that is because it is not initialized.

At first you should know that it can just managing with its ePO or you can reset it by other ePO (Not 100% Sure) but if you don't want to use ePO to handle it, The only way is contact with your technical support or the vendor for reset it.

Re: How to initialize a McAfee Encrypted USB Disk

That's the problem.

We don't have the ePO server anymore.

We don't have a support contract anymore. That's why I started the discussion
