How to fix syslog connection error when adding a registered server?

Hi,

I want to register a syslog server on McAfee ePo. The syslog server in this case is QRadar SIEM.

However, it showed the error which said "Syslog connection failed". I checked the orion log and it indicated as follows:

"....

2020-11-10 15:18:50,748 ERROR [http-nio-8443-exec-167] config.SyslogConfigAction - Test Syslog Connection failed."

Can you give me some hints to determine the root cause of this issue?

Re: How to fix syslog connection error when adding a registered server?

Hi,

Did you follow the KB below to set up the SysLog server:

How to set up an example syslog server for use with ePolicy Orchestrator

https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB87927

Also please confirm the correct encryption requirement is set:

Encryption requirements for ePolicy Orchestrator syslog integration

https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB91194

If yes, can you share the full log information from Orion to investigate this error.

Before sharing any logs, please remove any servernames, domain, IP, etc. sensitive info from them.

Re: How to fix syslog connection error when adding a registered server?

@Siu, I've read these articles carefully before posting the question in this forum. However, I'm not sure how to identify whether my syslog server, that is QRadar SIEM, meets the requirements as recommended by McAfee (btw, can a QRadar SIEM considered a syslog server?). Plus, I have the same concern for the required encryption.

Go to software catalog and search for qradar - there is a connector that might help.

@cdinet, Thank you for your hint. However, my first priority is to forward logs from McAfee ePo to SIEM.

Re: How to fix syslog connection error when adding a registered server?

Siem's usually connect to the database to pull directly from the db.  You may need to get some elk or other syslog server to forward directly to the siem.  I am not familiar with qradar, but I do know a lot of people use it.  Epo direct integration through the epo server is only via syslogng, so you might need to check with qradar on configuring that.
