Epo password reset

Jump to solution

Hi all,

I've tried to reset my epo global admin password as i have lost access to the epo.

I am running preinstallation auditor (epip.exe) version 3.1.0.222

This is the error returned from the application.

1900 2020-11-11 02:51:06 I User login to DB = CSDMEPO
1900 2020-11-11 02:51:06 I User login as sysadmin to DB =
1900 2020-11-11 02:51:06 I DB Port : 1xx3
1900 2020-11-11 02:51:06 I ...........................................
1900 2020-11-11 02:51:06 I new connection created
1900 2020-11-11 02:51:06 E Unknown error 0x800A0E7A
1900 2020-11-11 02:51:06 E Failed to connect to SQL
1900 2020-11-11 02:51:06 E Unknown error 0x800A0E78

Note that i have ping and telnet from epo server to sql db server and shown all success.

Both epo and sql are 2 different server itself.

the sql connection string id is also a valid username and password.

I do not know how to proceed from here as i am not able to login the /config page itself to test the connection to SQL.

Hello User37568778

If you lost access to the ePO console and it suggest your password is wrong and the PreInstall Auditor tool fails to connect to the DB then those symptoms sound like you DB may be full and denying logins, your password may be right at this stage but the tool also fails to connect with this error

1900 2020-11-11 02:51:06 E Failed to connect to SQL
1900 2020-11-11 02:51:06 E Unknown error 0x800A0E78

Could you please take a loot at the article below and free some space if is full:

https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB90100

If the DB is not full, could you test the connection from the ePO server using a .udl file? please see instructions below

https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB70929

Let us know how it goes

Regards
Alejandro

hi aguevara,

noted with thanks.

I will check the SQL is full or not.

As far as UDL file test i've done it and it says connection establish.

May i know what port does the epip.exe use to access the db to reset the password?

Or does it extract out the port number from &mcafee&/conf/db.properties file?

it is indeed taken from the db.properties file.

another option you have,is to access the ePO console on the actual epo server and click on

"Restore administrator access"

Ok noted on the port.

I dont think my version of epo has that button.

It is currently version 5.3.0 which has been EOL.

I am actually planning to upgrade it but with no access I am not able to do so 😕

What is the SQL Connection string id password is wrong?

I tried entering orion/config  but it keeps coming back at the main login page asking for login username/password which I do not have the credential which is why i need to reset using epip.exe

i'm in a very sticky situation here 😕

Re: Epo password reset

That typically indicates a failure to connect to the database in order to validate the admin account and may not be related to admin password at all.  Go to the core/config page and reset password to see if it will test connection successfully.  If not, you need to resolve issues with connection to sql.
