The only way I know of is to create a query that looks for systems in that group, including sub groups, and run a server task to run that query and email desired recipients.

That would send the email even if there are no results in the query.
That is correct. Ok, try this. Create a new query by going to new query, logging under feature group, then choose audit log entries. Create it as a table, then choose desired columns, but you definitely might want details. You can filter by details contains lost, then save it. You can then use that query to email you. Here are some sample audit log entries that you might want to use the to group "My Organization\Lost and Found" as keyword instead of just contains lost - that will show systems moving to that group instead of out of.
Moving system "CDxxx" from group "My Organization\Computers" to group "My Organization\Lost and Found\xxxx"
Since you are looking for contains that string, it should include any sub group that they are moved into.

Is there a way to use an automatic server response that sends an immediate email whenever a system checks in to ePO and reports its location in the system tree as being in any part of Lost and Found?
Hi,
I don't think that is so easy to achieve sadly.
The solution with the server task mentioned before seems the best option.
