Agent 5.6 and DXL Brokers

We have started to use Agent 5.6 in a small Window 10 environment (<1000) and as you know that comes with DXL bundled.

Until now we have not had any brokers setup. So I thought I should probably do that.

Can I install the broker software on the ePO server itself? Probably yes, but is that a bad idea?

Can I install it on the Agent Handler? Probably yes, but is that a bad idea?

Does it really need its only separate server?

Re: Agent 5.6 and DXL Brokers

Hi malcolmchalmers,

To be honest with a small estate such as you describe you could consider a DXL Windows server on the main ePO server!

The load from the DXL server would be quite small, as such not much impact to ePO operation. (This assumes the SQL dB is hosted on another server in the estate)

My concerns would be if/when an issue occurs (DXL or ePO or both!) the need to restart services or the host itself, likewise for the support teams trying to navigate the logs collected in the event of an issue.

However, in saying this as you have a VM estate you could create a smaller than normal Windows server to be the DXL server, or go full Linux host and install, dependent on the available hardware!

A separate host for the DXL install is preferred.

Re: Agent 5.6 and DXL Brokers

While you can set up a dxl broker, it is not necessary unless you are going to start using Threat Intelligence Exchange and/or Active Response.
