Is there a difference from a protections standpoint between SA as a program or a Addon to browser???

Is there a difference from a protections standpoint between SA as a program or a Addon to browser???

When it is a program I notice it is liked in your window program folders and you can see it as a Addon on other browsers like explorer FF is the only browser I use but I notice it on Explorer if I install SA as a program???

I think only when you have the add on, it can filter sites that are not safe
