which sequence use NTLM Authentication for WebGateway6.9.x

Jump to solution

Hello community

we use NTLM Authentication with WebGatway 6.9.4.

Today I had to enable basic authentication because of an application on a client, that works without browser.

The description in my webgateway documents says :

Proxy tries to authenticate the request using basic or integrated NTLM authentication.....

Here is my question :

Which method tries the proxy first ? What effect takes the additional activation of the basic authentication for the other clients ?

Will all of my clients use the way of Basic or Integrated authentication first ?

We need an want the option only for the special client.

Thanks for help and informations

Hi webse,

Web Gateway will offer both methods (NTLM and Basic). It is up to the browser or client to choose what type of authentication it will use (NTLM or Basic).

Most modern browsers will choose the most secure first (so NTLM). If it fails, it sometimes will fall back.

In MWG 6 it is not possible to enable (or simply offer) Basic authentication on a per client basis. In MWG 7 it is.

Best,

Jon

Hi Jon

Thanks for the super quickly answer.

The clientbrowsers do nothing other as befor the activation of the webwasher option ?

If they have used intergradet authentication - they continue to do so.

Is my unterstanding correctly ?

Best,

Webse
