initial login for web gateway 7

I just loaded web gateway 7 onto my virtual machine and i skipped the configuration wizard.

I'm trying to login now for the first time and it says the password is the last eight digits of the appliances mac. i've tried that along with usernames root and admin and still cant log in.

Something I am missing here??

Thanks!

Re: initial login for web gateway 7

Hi,

As its vmware the password will likely be 00000000 (it seams to work for me consistantly if i skip the setup wizard)

Re: initial login for web gateway 7

Are you talking about the GUI logon on port 4711 with the browser?

The default is admin/webgateway

The root password is usually 00000000 on VMware, but it depends on how you have your NICs defined. I think if they are set for e1000 NICs, it will be the MAC address as defined in the *.vmx file or in the ARP table.

Re: initial login for web gateway 7

No not the GUI.

I'm trying to log into the appliance on my vmware machine, I've tried the 00000000 and the NICs.

Is the username either admin, root or su?

I've tried all combinations.

Re: initial login for web gateway 7

Hi,

on physical appliances the user is root + last 8 digits of the MAC. In the same subnet do:

[root@mwgappl18 ~]# ping 10.150.163.17
PING 10.150.163.17 (10.150.163.17) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 10.150.163.17: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=3.68 ms
^C
--- 10.150.163.17 ping statistics ---
1 packets transmitted, 1 received, 0% packet loss, time 0ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 3.689/3.689/3.689/0.000 ms
[root@mwgappl18 ~]# arp -a
? (10.150.163.14) at 00:0c:29:44:62:f9 [ether] on eth0
? (10.150.163.17) at 00:0c:29:d6:91:43 [ether] on eth0
? (10.150.163.1) at 00:04:23:b5:b1:9c [ether] on eth0

the password is then obviously 29D69143

IP addresses need to be substituted by your IPs then of course

best,

Michael

Re: initial login for web gateway 7

It occurs ot me that you didn't say if you were trying to logon with SSH or the console.

You will NOT be able to use SSH to logon if you skipped past the wizard. By default, SSH permitroot logon is off unless you explicitly tell it to be allowed.

You can logon with root at the console. Then edit /etc/sshd/sshd_config and uncomment PermitRootLogon yes. (service sshd restart, afterwards)

Re: initial login for web gateway 7

thank you for everyones responses.

I ended up just burning another image on there and running through the setup wizard this time, I was able to set my own password and I'm testing 7 out now.

Thanks

Re: initial login for web gateway 7

If you are looking for the MAC Adress on VMWare you can also take a look at the vmx File of the virtual Machine.

You will find an entry like this.

ethernet0.generatedAddress = "00:50:56:ba:00:10"

Re: initial login for web gateway 7

Or look into the VMConsole aka VSphere Client
