WebWasher SNMP question

Is there a MIB (or where is the MIB) that would allow us to have HP Openview monitor the status of the http(s) listening process(url filtering)/port on the Webwasher? We want to be informed if/when the Webwasher is no longer filtering web/proxy traffic.

(i.e. the device and interface could be up, but the service is down)

Re: WebWasher SNMP question

Hello,

try to use the integrated SNMP agent. You can find it under Configuration > SNMP Interface on the UI. After enabling it in the left-side navigation structure, you need to set the community in the agent's 'Communities' tab. Afterwards you are generally good to go. The Webwasher specific MIB is abailable under the 'MIB Browser' tab. Additionally it supports the tcp-MIB wich can be used to check the available listeners.

Using .1.3.6.1.2.1.6.13.1.1 as OID and a bulk get you get all ports and their status listed:

[root@WW500 ~]# snmpbulkget -v 2c -c public 127.0.0.1:9161 .1.3.6.1.2.1.6.13.1.1
TCP-MIB::tcpConnState.0.0.0.0.21.0.0.0.0.0 = INTEGER: listen(2)
TCP-MIB::tcpConnState.0.0.0.0.22.0.0.0.0.0 = INTEGER: listen(2)
TCP-MIB::tcpConnState.0.0.0.0.80.0.0.0.0.0 = INTEGER: listen(2)
TCP-MIB::tcpConnState.0.0.0.0.1344.0.0.0.0.0 = INTEGER: listen(2)
TCP-MIB::tcpConnState.0.0.0.0.2525.0.0.0.0.0 = INTEGER: listen(2)
TCP-MIB::tcpConnState.0.0.0.0.9090.0.0.0.0.0 = INTEGER: listen(2)
TCP-MIB::tcpConnState.0.0.0.0.9092.0.0.0.0.0 = INTEGER: listen(2)
TCP-MIB::tcpConnState.0.0.0.0.9093.0.0.0.0.0 = INTEGER: listen(2)
TCP-MIB::tcpConnState.0.0.0.0.9999.0.0.0.0.0 = INTEGER: listen(2)
TCP-MIB::tcpConnState.0.0.0.0.10000.0.0.0.0.0 = INTEGER: listen(2)

I believe this MIB is part of the standard set in most SNMP management tools.

best,

Michael
