Web Gateway Appliance WG-4500 Help

I just upgraded our proxy from Proxy (Optional WCCP) to Transparent Bridge and everything was good until all our traffic started flowing at around noon. Using the original settings we only had about half of our users going  through the gateway because people figured out ways around it or our IT guys were too lazy to make sure it was working at their locations. Now that it's a transparent bridge almost all traffic is flowing through the device and it's taxing the memory bad. Is this normal, should I upgrade the memory? Or is there something going on in the machine that I should look at? I was pretty sure when I specked this machine out it could handle our traffic. It's two years old. On a full day we have just under 1000 users. Version 7.4.2.7.0.

Also, does anyone know what the most memory is that this machine can utilize?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Web Gateway Appliance WG-4500 Help

Hi Bonelessi,

The new recommended (if your considering upgrading) is 8gb:

Web Gateway 7.5.0 recommended memory (RAM) upgrade - https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=cont...

If you haven't got a support case open, I'd recommend it so we can give you further guidance as well. It might not be a bad idea to stand up a temporary VM (as a scanning node only) to help support the traffic and get the users happy.

Best Regards,

Jon

Re: Web Gateway Appliance WG-4500 Help

Hi Jon, do you have a link on how to set up a temp machine to help support traffic?

I'll do some research now but I'm not sure how to word the question.

Re: Web Gateway Appliance WG-4500 Help

Hi Bonelessi,

Setting up a VM is similar to an appliance, we have installation instructions in the Expert Center:

Installation instructions:

It's also discussed in the product notes:

Re: Web Gateway Appliance WG-4500 Help

I'm actually having an issue with processing power. If I set up a HA VM or another box will this help reduce the load on the WG-4500 processor?

Re: Web Gateway Appliance WG-4500 Help

Hi Bonelessi,

That's the idea, you'll set this node up as a scanning node and it will help take some of the load off of the 4500.

Please get an SR open if you don't have one, let me know and I can take a look.

Best Regards,

Jon
