Re: Virtual Appliance Minimum Requirements

Please note,

the installation guide shows the minimum requirements as well. If your systems does not meet the minimum requirements it could be possible to get troubles with support, in case of a support case.

Cheers

Re: Virtual Appliance Minimum Requirements

I guess the best if you use kaspersky cheaper, safer, faster. The MWG not the best choose.

Re: Virtual Appliance Minimum Requirements

Hi ,

from your side of information, why Kaspersky is cheaper, safer and faster? Would be interesting.

Cheers

Cheaper :

McAfee Web Gateway | Intel Security Products

faster: Just my experience.

Safer: You have to ask the unit 61398.

At the risk of giving a snack to a bridge minder:

Cheaper:   MWG is licensed per butts in seats, at least for us.  Adding additional virtual servers costs $0 to Intel beyond the virtual server infra. .

Faster:   scan and inspect less, and sure, you can be faster.   If you are faster at all.

Safer:  that's quite  a  FUD statement.   Specifics welcome though.    Kaspersky is headquartered in Moscow, and that's enough to give a lot of folks pause while referencing hostile nation states.

Re: Virtual Appliance Minimum Requirements

Hi Kbolt,

The minimum/recommended requirements are listed in the installation guide:

Web Gateway 7.5.2 Installation Guide - https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=PD25969

Here is a summary, but please refer to the Installation guide for more detail. The idea behind running a virtual MWG is that it gives you the flexibility to bring your own hardware, if that hardware is not keeping up with your environment then its up to you to add more resources.

Some environment will operate just fine at or below even the minimum requirements, but if you start to encounter performance issues we may recommend you add more resources.

With 7.5.x and the new Anti-Malware engine (64-bit), MWG has the ability to use more memory than before (when it had a 32-bit Anti-Malware engine -- not OS). As a result of the new GAM engine, the memory requirements went up.

Requirements:

-VMWare ESX or ESXi (if you have 5.5, be sure to use 5.5 update 2)

-HyperV support was added with 7.6.x

VM Host machine requirements:

-CPU - 64-bit capable

-Virtualization extension - VT-x/AMD-V

Minimum requirements:

-Memory: 16gb

-Harddisk: 200gb

-CPU cores: 4

Recommended requirements:

-Memory: 32gb

-Harddisk: 500gb

-CPU cores: at least 4

VM Settings

-Network connection mode: Bridged

-Network interface type: VMXNET 3

-SCSI controller: VMWare Paravirtual SCSI

Best Regards,

Jon

PS, MWG is way better than Kaspersky!
