Restricting users for attachment of files in Outlook Client via MWG

Greetings!

Dear Friends,

When user logins to any Web Mails then We can Block files attachments via MWG but when user has Email accounts configured in Outlook client then MWG is not able to Block Attachments.

How can we restrict users for attachments of files in Outlook client via MWG. Correct me if i am wrong, outlook uses HTTP/HTTPS so MWG, should be able to block it?

Thank You!

Best Regards,

Irfan Naseer

Re: Restricting users for attachment of files in Outlook Client via MWG

If I remember correctly HTTP/HTTPS is used as the protocol to transport the data, but attachments are encapsulated into some Base64 encoded data. MWG does not know how to extract the attachments from this sort of data, so it might not find the correct piece of data for scanning.

Andre

I'm not too sure about MWG but you should be able to filter file extensions attachments on your email server (postfix, exchange, etc.)

What kind of email server do you have ? I run McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange on Exchange servers and it does a good job of filtering/blocking .exe, .scr, .js file attachments from reaching outlook users.
