Reports from Webreporter is showing Blank categories as the top hits.

The Weekly reports that are scheduled for our customers are showing blank category as top hits. Not sure why?

It seems to me that it might be due to User defined URLs. We have a rule that has recategorized some URLs in user defined category.

Please check out the last page of attached report, URL Category column. It has maximum number of browse time.

I am curious to know why the category cell is blank for the maximum browse time hits?

Re: Reports from Webreporter is showing Blank categories as the top hits.

Hi.

There is probably a rule with "stop cycle" or "stop ruleset" action somewhere, so the websites are not categorized (typically a whitelist, or a blacklist).

You should try to add a Rule, before this whitelist or blacklist :

Rule Criteria : List.OfCategory.IsEmpty (URL.Categories<Defaults>) equals false

Action : continue

Then you will get the catgeory of the websites, even if they are whitelisted.

Re: Reports from Webreporter is showing Blank categories as the top hits.

We still see blank category in the report. We used the above ruleset and also enabled categorization on Webreporter:

WR GUI -> Administration -> Options -> Categorization

WR GUI -> Setup -> Log Sources -> Log Sources -> Processing -> Include Categories from Trusted Source

Why do we still see blank cateogries in the last page of attached report, URL Category column?

Re: Reports from Webreporter is showing Blank categories as the top hits.

Most of your reports are inaccurate because they are not using browse time correctly... see this KB article.

https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB64344

It would appear that you are excluding authentication for several things.  Likely this is also bypasses categorization too.  The last table on the report is sorted by browse time descending which brings the anonymous (unauthenticated) traffic to the top.  Not surprising since this is probably traffic from several/most/all of your users.  The problem is that you should not be including category with browse time.

Re: Reports from Webreporter is showing Blank categories as the top hits.

We have careated a top most rule set that enables category lookup for each and every website( even for global whitelist). It was provided by a.lenne in the above post:

Rule Criteria : List.OfCategory.IsEmpty (URL.Categories<Defaults>) equals false

Action : continue

So with this rule there should not be a possibility for any site/URL to bypass categorization if it is correct.

Not all sites will have a category.

If you drill down into them using Quick View, what actual Site Names are displayed?
