Problems accessing Windows Update from Windows 7

Jump to solution

Hello all,

I am having problems configuring WG4000 to allow Windows Update access from Windows 7. When using WG4000 as a proxy, I receive following errors in my windowsupdate.log

2012-01-12          15:00:46:570           980          e90          Misc          WARNING: Send failed with hr = 80072f78.

I've tried adding *.microsoft.com;*.windowsupdate.com;*.windows.com to global whitelist, but still nothing (only rule set above that one was authentication)

Without proxy configured, Windows Update works correctly.

Does anyone have any idea what to check next?

Thanks, MSM

Hello,

I have not yet set up a VM to test this but I heard from some colleagues that Windows Update fails when Authentication is enabled. I have not yet verified this, but if you are interested maybe you can put the white list before authentication to skip authentication for Windows Update and see if that works?

Best,

Andre

I've settled on configuring whitelist for domains listed in "How to Configure a Firewall for Software Updates" on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693717.aspx  and positioning it before authentication rule. Thanks to both of you!
