McAfee Web Gateway: How to automate the browser configuration? (Without AD)

Jump to solution

Greetings!

Dear Colleagues,

As mention in the guide

A large organization with thousands of desktops, however, may prefer to automate the browser configuration process. One way is to use the web proxy auto-discovery (WPAD) protocol. This requires the deployment of a proxy auto-configuration (PAC) file, which needs to be written and maintained, on the endpoint or the WPAD host server.

Question1:

How to deploy this setting? e.g. On premises or remotely? Please show screenshot if possible.

Question2:

When deploying via AD; Firefox users will need a specially built version of Firefox and a GPO extension.

What does this mean?

Thank You!

Hi.

It was already discussed on Technet several times. See: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/2573a3e5-5eb9-4a25-a746-4b98039c7525...

For AD users, please use GPO settings to point MSIE to http://proxy.domain.com/proxy.pac file.

For non-AD users, use DHCP with ooptions nr. 252 to direct DHCP client to look for proxy.pac file: Create an option 252 entry in DHCP

In short:

  • turn on File server feature
  • upload proxy.pac file to MWG via troubleshooting -. proxy node -> Files -> upload

If done, client asks DHCP server for IP and will get also URI where to get proxy.pac file. Browser will use this dhcp option, tries to get http://proxy.domain.com/proxy.pac from MWG. MWG will forward such reauest to local File server feature on to  http://localhost:4713/proxy.pac and feed to client browser.
