i am having a MWG version 7.3.2
what i need to achieve is to do some content filtering over seraching engines
for example if i want to block the category of pornography i can easily do so through the URL.category filter but what if i want to block the pronography search results in searching engines (google, yahoo..etc)
i enabled the google safe search through enabling the safe search enforcer but it didnt block any pronography images in google images
Thanks in advance for your support
There's a category named Visual Search Engine that you might consider blocking to cover this case. Anonymizing Utilities isn't in play on google image search, but is anohter one to block to deal with the usual evasion tactics.on 10/21/13 4:51:00 PM CDT
Thanks Regis for your reply
would you please clarify waht is the category named Visual Search Engine which would help
is it a built in category in the MWG which i may use directly or should i create a custom rule set with custom rules ?
In addition to it being a distinct category I notice on google image searches in the access log (/opt/mwg/log/user-defined-logs/access.log/access.log ) it appears to be a category used for search engine results that display as images or thumbnails.
defines it as
Web pages that provide image-specific search results such as thumbnail pictures. Sites that offer site-specific visual search engines are not included.
It's a builtin category.
I tried to set the Safe search enforcer to strict but it also didnt solve the problem
on setting safe search enforcer to strict i found the following:
when i type in google search the word prono or sex the result is blocked but on entering any porno celebrity name nothing is blocked so all the porno content can be viewed simply
Try adding a rule like this to your URL filter rule set. This should force google image search to expose the original URL as a paramter in the results, and the URL filter engine should be able to prevent the thumbnails from displaying. It's not perfect, but it helps.
|Enabled||Google: Append parameters to search|
1: URL.Host matches *google.*
2: AND (URL.HasParameter("q") equals true
3: OR URL.Path equals "search"
4: OR URL.Path equals "/custom"
5: OR URL.Path equals "/images"
6: OR URL.Path equals "images/search"
7: OR URL.Path equals "/videosearch")
|Continue||Set URL.ParametersString = |
You should also be aware that you need SSL interception set up. Google, now, redirect all searches to HTTPS. With out SSL interception the MWG will be unable to see the content of the website and thus be unable to selectively block it.
If you cant use SSL interception there are tricks you can do to force Google to provide non SSL search pagesw.however they are non trivial to implement.
I already enabled the ssl scanner rule set and all the https traffic is intercepted
On the other hand i mentioned google as an example but same applies with all search engines as bing,yahoo,..etc
