Is Upgrading Web Reporter 5.2.0.04 worth it ?

Jump to solution

Hi Guys

I currently have Web Reporter 5.2.0 installed, I was looking at upgrading it to the latest version but from what I can see the latest version is 5.2.1. I assume that there is little to no improvements between the builds. Would I be correct in thinking this ?

Also I assume that if the above is correct that the product has been replaced by another product, if so what is it ?

One final thing, if I do stay with the older version we currently have installed, I have on serveral occasions witness that when creating a new user via the network option as soon as you select the find a user option im logged out of the application. Has anyone else seen this before and is there a fix ?

Thanks for your help

Hi Aaron!

I would definitely recommend upgrading. The latest version brings about security fixes as well as nice new features.

The upgrade is relatively painless. Below are the steps I recommend taking prior to, and during the upgrade.

-Best Practices for upgrading Web Reporter: https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB69689

During the upgrading there will be a database schema upgrade, so it may take a little bit depending on the size of the DB:

-How to monitor database schema update progress: https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB69622

If you're using MySql (the internal database), make sure you have enough space on disk otherwise it will stop you.

Visit the following URL to download the latest version of Web Reporter, you will need to enter your Grant #:

https://secure.mcafee.com/apps/downloads/my-products/login.aspx?region=us

As for the logout issue, that very well could be fixed in the latest version.

There is a sibling product called Content Security Reporter, which integrates into ePO, but it's all personal preference of if you wanted to move to it.

Here is a comparison: http://www.mcafee.com/us/resources/data-sheets/ds-web-reporter-specifications.pdf

Best Regards,

Jon

I'm at 5.2.1.02 (upgraded some time ago from 5.2.1.01).  I'm always surprised at the relative ease of the MWR updating process.

While I was hoping for a boost in performance, I upgrade mainly to stay compliant with security updates.

We have to show how many CVE vulnerabilities we mitigate each year, so it helps with this, too.
