How to restrict URLs by User Account using MWG v7.1

Howdy all,

Product - MWG v7.1

Authentication Method - NTLM

Issue: How to restrict a URL and only allow a handful of users to access it

My company would like to block access to a website (www.skype.com). We want to block this for everyone except a only a handful of users (User1, User2, User3 for example) will be the only ones with access to the site. I have a rule in place that blocks access to the site, and we are using NTLM authentication. My team and I have searched the KB and have not found anything specific to this and our attempts at creating a rule have not been successful.

Any help, thoughts or ideas. It's probably something simple that we are overlooking.

Re: How to restrict URLs by User Account using MWG v7.1

You need to do it by groups or just by user name.

Use the Authentication.UserName or Authentication.Attributes.  Authentication.Attributes will get the AD groups that the user is a part of.

The Rule would be like this:

Authentication.Attributes = (group user is in)

AND

Authentication.UserName = (users domain account)

AND

URL.Host = www.skype.com

Then Block in the Actions

It is best to make lists, then do "matches in list" instead of equals.

Sorry for the delay in responding but using the info you provided I was able to build a rule that provides for authentication for select sites.

Thanks!!

I also wrote a more general doc on how to do so:
