HTTP_VIA header -remove or modify?

Hi,

is there any reason why one should keep this setup:

So instead of just not sending the via header, the rule modifies the string in the via-header.. This way the proxy server can be detected.. Wouldn't it make more sense just to delete the header.add part or are there any concerns?

There are reasons for both. I would say for the most part you should modify it (to prevent proxy loops -- which can bring a system to its knees), and for some sites you may just want it deleted (in case they dont like it at all).
