Delegate admin tasks

Jump to solution

Hi,

Im not sure how possible this is or not.  I have a need to delegate a group of people (using a Role only allowed access to the Lists) the ability to update one of my Wildcard expression lists.  I have about 30 lists all of which have been created with the default permissions (all groups have read and write access) and would love to be able to give this one Role read and write to this onle list but to lock them out of all the others i suspect I would need to alter the permissions of potentially every list.

Is there a way I can assign just this one list to the Role without having to edit every other list.  Im also thinking ahead of when new lists are created that the person creating those lists will not remember to alter the default permissions of all groups with read and write access.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, no way to set that as default in this version. I agree, it's pretty tedious.

However, with the new feature of External Lists in upcoming versions, you'll be able to maintain lists on your own, post them on a web server within your own infrastructure and have MWG read them periodically for changes and use them.

Then you won't have to have users logon to the GUI tomodify the list, just edit a text file and post it to a URL.

I'm really looking forward to this feature.

Hi Lance,

at the moment you will need to modify the lists by hand. Most likely you would assign the "Super Administrator" Read/Write permissions to all lists, and set the "default" permissions to "no access". On top of the Super Adminitrator permissions, you will add read/write access to the role of the delegated admin group.

At the moment there is no other way to modify multiple lists at the same time. 30 lists should be OK. A while ago I had a request to maintain 6000 lists in the same manner :-)

This behaviour should improve in the near futures, but currently there is no supported way I am aware of.

Best,

Andre

Im willing to manually change the ones i have right now but is there a way to change what the default permissions are when you create a new list.  I just cant trust the people who would be administrering this system to remember to change the permissions when they create a new list.

I'm not authorized to give dates, but soon.

I have been playing with some pre-release code so I know it's real.

Lance,

7.1.6 with external lists is BETA now. You might want to try.
