Blocking Advertisements

Good morning,

Running MWG 7 version 7103

Due to the increased number of advertisements serving up malware my boss inquired about blocking advertisements from websites. I remember this option in version 6 and was wondering if there was a way to do it in version 7.

Thanks

Re: Blocking Advertisements

Hi,

I have found some information about your question.

Policy/Settings

go to Engines

choose -- gtw antimalware

1. select: Potentially unwanted: Ad-/Spyware

When selected, the following is blocked: Applications that show potentially annoying or unwanted advertisements, but also track and analyze the user’s activities  and behavior.

2. select: Potentially unwanted: Adware

Re: Blocking Advertisements

Hello,

one way MWG 6.x used to remove advertisments/banners from web sites was removing images of a specific size. This can be done with version 7 by using the attached rule set.

An example page to see if banners are removed is

http://www.bannercreator.nu/banner-size.html

Best,

Andre

Im on V7.1.5.2.0(11970) and I dont have any of these options shown under Gateway Anti-Malware

I only have Enable Antivirus Prescan, Enable GTI file reputation queries and Enable heuristic scanning

Why dont i have this big list shown?

Re: Blocking Advertisements

Hi Lance,

I assume you do not have McAfee Anti-Malware licensed, but not McAfee Gateway Anti-Malware.

If you send me your license ID via PM, I can verify this.

Best,

Andre
