Good day all. I curecurre use BW control on MWG but I don't 100% understand it. I have a couple questions but primarily these two for now:
Does setting a maximum (e.g. 6000kbps) on a class mean that each client can only get up to that max BW? So if clients A and B are both simultaneously trying to access a web resource that I've applied BW control to, will they have to share that 600kbps? Or does A get to go as high as 600kbps and B get to do the same, thereby erfextieffe using up 1200kbps of my overall internet BW?
Is there a way I can use web gateway to effectively carve out a piece of my overall internet BW (e.g. I have a 20Mbps link, I want casual web browsing to take only 10Mbps of that while everything else is left for traffic that bypasses the proxy)
Are there any further documents that go a bit deeper into the inner workings of BW conteol as seen on MWG? I know of the document on this site but I feel while it's extensive, it doesn't do much a of deep dive into bow and why it works.
Further, clients that use the same class will more or less battle for it (50/50) but this could vary, so it will not be 100% exactly 50/50.
There were old events called Throttle.FromServer for example where you could limit each connection individually. Now it is class based.
Regarding your setup question, please have a look into the article. There you will see a root class and then child classes for streaming media, YouTube, Social Networking etc. In your policy you can set up a rule set and choose the criteria you want (e.g. category is Streaming media) and then apply the Streaming media class. So you can step by step apply the classes you have created with individual criteria.
Please let me know if you have further questions, but most of them should be answered in the guide.
