Authenticate Computers

Jump to solution

Hi,

how can we authenticate based on computers?
These devices get their IP from DHCP and multiple users log into them, so the only consistent factor is Hostname.

I am aware we could use a Reverse DNS lookup on the client IP to get the Hostname then match it against an integrated list, but could we query AD to produce a list of computers belonging in a group? Is that possible?

Thank you!

Luka

If you have MCP on the devices and using MCP for authentication, you can get the computer name from MCP.

Set User-Defined.systeminfo = JSON.ReadFromString (Client.SystemInfo)
Set User-Defined.computername = JSON.AsString (JSON.GetByName (User-Defined.mcp.systeminfo, "systemname"))

You can now use User-Defined.computername for anything in the policy as a variable (or set Authentication.Username to be the computer name.

Is there a way without MCP?

We were not able to. We had to use lookup tables based on reverse IP entries
